The Magpies fly down to Victor and dive into California Wine Culture

We were invited down for lunch by a friend of Magpie, Tegan Passalacqua, Wine Maker at Turley Vineyards and of his own project, Sandlands. We spent the afternoon at Tegan’s farmhouse just down the road from his historic Kirschenmann Vineyard.

Victor is an unincorporated hamlet in between Lodi and Lockeford, and just south of the Mokelumne River in the Mokelumne River AVA. The unique soil of the area is a result of the sediments the Mokelumne River brings from The Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Tegan had some other local wine making friends over for the day. Adam Saake of Perch Wine Co., Jeff Perlegos of Perlegos Family Wine Co., and Christina Lopez of Acquiesce Vineyards had wines and stories to share. Thank you.

We were treated to a very in depth, and educational tasting of the wines, the AVA, history and some soil science of wine making. After Tegan’s comprehensive tour through the wines we ate lunch of vegetables, Lockeford sausages in a house meat salad and wild salmon.

Another great Monday in California. Thank you Tegan and company.
