FARMS AND THINGS
AZOLLA FARM - Located in Pleasant Grove about 30 minutes north of Sacramento. Farmers Scrivner and Rosie had long been part of the restaurant industry as front of house before starting their certified organic farm. Find them at the Sunday farmer’s market under the freeway.
ROOT 64 FARM - An urban farm located in Tallac Village right here in Sacramento. Farmers Sarah and Randy organically farm about one acre of land very efficiently. They have a very popular spring to fall market in front of their farm (also their house) on Saturday mornings.
TWIN PEAKS ORCHARDS - Located in Newcastle and operated by fourth generation farmer Camelia and her husband Jim. CCOF certified organic farm and one of the first designated Slow Food Farms in the country. They go to several farmer’s markets including the Sunday market under the freeway.
LADYHAWKE FARM - Located in Rio Linda, Melissa organically farms specialty vegetables, herbs and flowers. CCOF certified.
MARY’S CHICKEN - Located in Sanger CA where the processing happens but they also contract out some farms in order to produce the volume necessary. They are a never antibiotics and never animal feed grower and they have humane animal treatment certification.
BRANDT BEEF - Located in Brawley CA near the Salton Sea all cattle are raised and processed in the same area. They are a never antibiotic and never animal feed grower. “Where Food Comes From” certified for their commitment to animal husbandry, environmental stewardship, and people & community.
SWEET MABEL’S FARM - A small urban farm in West Sacramento producing flowers and a few fruit trees. Elle is a one woman show only growing for wholesale. Find bouquets made by her at Freeport Bakery and Moonbelly Bakery.
ACME BREAD - Located in San Francisco’s Ferry Building they make all their baked goods with organic flour. We get all bread that is not made in house from them.
ZERO FOODPRINT - Magpie donates a dollar per choice drink on the menu to Zero Foodprint a nonprofit that gives grants to farmers to sequester carbon. Read about them here - scroll down to the last couple of pages.
