The Magpies make the Trip to St. George Spirits of Alameda

We took a Monday Road trip to the legendary St. George Spirits, and what we found was a world of pure imagination.

It was a mellow drive from Sacramento to St. George Spirits. St. George is built in a hangar on the now decommissioned Naval Air Station Alameda. The view of the distant city of San Francisco across the tarmac is spectacular.

We entered the hangar that houses St. George and were greeted by Drew to refreshing highballs of a fragrant soda water with jalapeño vodka and lovely aromatics.

The work of the day in the distillery was the begining process of turning pears into St. George’s signature pear brandy. The pear’s fragrance filled the tasting room and the distillery floor. The tour was filled with alternating tastes, and Drew’s intense passion and knowledge.

We were given a tour of the fermenting space, barrel aging area, the bottling room. After lunch The Magpies pulled up to the counter and were given a full tour of all 15 ish spirits. Thank you St. George. We finally made the pilgrimage.

For years, St. George Spirits have been a part of the cocktails at Magpie’s bar. It’s great to connect the dots. Thank you Drew and all of St. George Spirits. Right now you can enjoy The Coastal Coupe, a Magpie cocktail made with prosecco, fermented grapefruit, Brucato Orchard Amaro, and St. George Terrior Gin.
